Nigeria: LG Boss Moves to Tackle Erosion

5 September 2008

Ohafia — Mr Uche Ogboso, the Chairman of Ohafia Local Government in Abia, has reiterated the determination of the council to confront the menace caused by erosion in the area.

The erosion in Akanu Ohafia has buried some buildings, rendering tens of people homeless.

Ogboso told NAN in Ohafia that he would not relent until the erosion, which he said had become a nightmare to the community, was checked.

He said the local council would not wait for the state government to assist it before acting so as to check any further deterioration of the erosion site.

"That is why we have commenced work at the site; we have the resources to make it work," he said.

The chairman, however, did not disclose the amount the council budgeted or what it had spent so far to contain the menace.
