At 26 years now, Moses Serwadda aka Sweet Kid has gradually risen to become one of the outstanding male musicians in Uganda.
Formerly an emcee in Club Silk, Sweet Kid came to the limelight in 2005 after his Mama Brenda hit, subsequently releasing his Kankutwale album. He followed this up with Sirikyusa in 2006 and then Kiba Kibi in 2007.
He was named the Pam Award winning best new artiste in 2006. After releasing duets with big shots like Bebe Cool and Juliana and celebrating a few more birthdays, Sweet Kid is not a kid any more, atleast musically.
Stuck to the afro beat-dancehall fusion music style, Sweet Kid has managed to find space in the hearts of several music lovers in Uganda. He is back again and will this Saturday unveil his latest album titled Sirinayo Mulala.
Just like in the past, the songs on this six-track album are still about love and their sound is typical of Sweet Kid's trademark, the lady-like melodious voice.
The songs include Akadde in which Sweet Kid urges men to spare some time to give back some love to their wives, Omwami Wo, which has a similar message but this time urging the ladies to respect and offer their best to their husbands.
The most famous song on the album is the title-track Sirinayo Mulala, a sensual duet with diva Juliana Kanyomozi. Sweet Kid says that his career has received a big boost from women, and such is the reason he can never do anything (musically) without giving ladies first priority.
"Juliana is one of my mentors and I believe she's one of the ladies with the best voices the world over. I was extremely excited after recording this duet with her and I knew it would turn into a hit in just days and I haven't been disappointed," Sweet Kid said of Sirinayo Mulala hit.
On this album, Sweet Kid thought it better to prove his maturity by tackling other topics apart from the predictable love songs. He once again teamed up with Bebe Cool and they did a song titled Corruption. As expected, the two musicians, attack politicians, police and other people practicing corruption.
They go ahead and curse them and even scare them that they will rot in prison. Sweet Kid will be unveiling this album at the Hotel Equatorial parking lot tomorrow while he will hold a similar family concert at Didi's world in Kansanga on Sunday.
Revellers will part with Shs10,000 for the Saturday concert and Shs4,000 for the family concert.
