Kampala — The Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has told Baganda to invest in education as the only way to ensure their children's future. He said education is the only gift a parent could ever offer to children to ensure a better Buganda and Uganda.
"Education is the key to development, It's the life gift we [parents] should offer our children," the Kabaka told hundreds of his subjects at Wobulenzi Public School during his recent tour of Bulemezi county.
He urged parents to support the Universal Primary Education programme to fight ignorance. "We must support the UPE programme where possible. Parents can build class rooms, staff quarters so that they own community schools," the Kabaka said adding, " The government will then come in and find us [parents] on the way."
Kabaka Mutebi said parents should come out and support the UPE though subsidising and providing pupils with scholastic materials. "We should not leave the entire burden to the government. Let us [parents] be part of the entire programme,"
The Kabaka also handed over a three-classroom block constructed by Buganda Kingdom to Wobulenzi Public School to support education in the area. The donation also involved a well-equipped computer laboratory, placing the entire project at a cost of about Shs400 million.
