New officials at Jwaneng Comets have said their main task is to bring back the club to the Premier League next season. Comets were relegated last season and will now do battle in the First Division South.
Club spokesperson, Archibald Ngakayagae told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they have told everyone including the players that it is very important to return to top-flight football. He said that as the only club in the higher division in their region, they are not only representing the mining town of Jwaneng but the whole of Kgalagadi District.
"We want to start mobilising fans and encourage them to support the club. It is difficult to run a club in the Premier League since there are no sponsorships. Clubs rely on gate takings and we would like to encourage supporters in nearby villages to attend our games," he said. He stated that they have recruited a number of players who will be very vital in the clubs' fight for a return to the Premier League. Some of the players are the BMC duo of Shepard Mosekgwa and Bobo Motlhalane. "We have also recruited a striker, Mornie Dorsie from Blue Stars. He was the top goal scorer when his team was playing in the play-offs. We have also signed Kago Batsile from Gaborone United," he said.
Ngakayagae explained that they are aware it will not be an easy campaign in the First Division. He cited the likes of Mochudi Buffaloes, Letlapeng, Killer Giants, Masitaoka and Wonder Sporting as some of the clubs that will give them problems in the First Division.
"We want to forget that we are from the Premier League. We will take every game seriously. In Botswana, the First Division League is very tough," he added.
However, he stated that they are ready for the challenge as about 70 percent of the players they have are still hungry for success. The club is under the tutelage of a new coach, Kaiser Kalambo.
