Gambia: Man Arrested for Hand Chopping

Reports reaching Foroyaa have confirmed that one Musa Jallow, a resident of Nafugan, a Village in Jimara, in the Upper River Region, has allegedly cut the left hand of one Sillah Baldeh at the said village. The reason for the action of the alleged perpetrator is not known to many people in the area.

When the Police Commissioner in URR, Mr. Ebrima Cham, was contacted, he confirmed the incident. According to Mr. Cham, the said Musa Jallow at around 23:40pm, went to the said village with a cutlass and attacked the victim and allegedly hurt him on his left hand. He said that with the help of the villagers; he was arrested and handed over to the police and that he is helping them in their investigations.

Sillah Baldeh,the victim, was said to have been admitted at the Basse Health Centre for medical attention.

Police commissioner Cham, however, urged the people in the region to be law abiding and not to act arbitrarily. He stressed that the courts are there to ensure that justice prevails.
