The Gambia Press Union, in partnership with GAMES (a media NGO based in Denmark) has recently organized a three day strategic planning meeting at Sanyang to map out a way forward for the Union.
Speaking at the workshop, the chairperson of GAMES, Lars Moller, said the GPU-GAMES partnership project has gone half way, and there is need for the two organisations to review the existing project and to draw another capacity building programme for Gambian journalists.
He called on media organisations that are affiliated to the GPU to formulate short term training programmes for their members. These programmes, he said, would be submitted to benefactors in Denmark for funding.
Presenting a draft strategic plan, Ndey Tapha Sosseh, GPU President, said the Union would formulate programmes that would promote responsible journalism, improve the working conditions of journalists and make the body a vibrant organisation.
