Gambia/Algeria: Scorpions Ready for Double Over Algeria

12 July 2008

The Scorpions camp is trimming with talent ahead of their Saturday cracker against the Desert Warriors of Algeria at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

Strike powers Ousman Jallow and Assan Jatta returns to the team after serving a two match suspension together with defenders Lamin Conateh and Abdoulie Corr. Their return has added more pressure on Coach Paul Put in selecting his eighteen man squad. And talking about match against the North Africans, Scorpions captain Ebou Sillah said: "We defeated them before and we can do it again."

Gambia defeated Algeria the last time they met 2-1 at the Independence Stadium in the last qualifying match for the Ghana 2008 Nations Cup. The defeat led to the Desert Foxes not qualifying for the continental tournament. And now that the Scorpions are in a much better shape under the guidance of Coach Paul Put, a repeat of their October 2007 feat is well assuring.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Musa Bajaha alongside defender Abdoulie Corr has joined the team's camp at the Seaview Garden Hotel, in Kololi. Bajaha missed the Scorpions previous two games against Liberia and Senegal due to injury whilst Corr was under suspension.
