Monrovia — A Liberian-American Couple based in Brooklyn, United States of America has continued the donation of several bags of rice and other humanitarian supplies to several orphanages and old folk homes in Monrovia and its environs.
The donation of another (60) bags of rice to mostly destitute people in Liberia by Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo Andrews, is in continuation of the first batch of donations of rice and other supplies to mostly disadvantaged citizens following years of civil conflict that had ruined their lives for which they sought refuge in homes designated for the poor and the needy.
According to Mr. Lorenzo Andrews, who is currently in the country to spearhead the distribution on behalf of the couples, the gesture is in his words "a celestial inspiration from the Almighty God which has led them to Liberia to assist our unfortunate Liberian brothers and sisters get some amount of relief through our meager resources."
Mr. Andrews said: My wife, Mrs. Ronelle Andrews was inspired by God to assist our fellow Liberians, so I therefore decided to come to Liberia and supervise the distribution of the humanitarian supplies to our unfortunate brothers and sisters in order to maintain a decent life.
The couple's donations were received by thousands of orphans in 10 orphanage homes which include: the Diana E. Davies orphanage home, Antoinette Tubman Cheshire Home, Susie Guether orphanage home, Love a Child orphanage home, Old Folks home on 10th Street, among others.
In his message to hundreds of orphans and the old folks, Mr. Andrew said the goodwill gesture by the Andrews family to Liberians is purely humanitarian as they have worked assiduously and saved money for this venture.
"This is our inspiration that the Almighty God has revealed to my wife, and we are proud that we are ably assisting our unfortunate children, elderly and others to share in God's divine blessings that He has bestowed on us; we are proud to do this and we give God the glory," Mr. Andrews told the cheering orphans and old folks.
With the message: "A smile on a child's face is priceless," Mr. and Mrs. Andrews pitied that several children and old folks are enduring abject poverty and abandonment, but noted that with their modest contributions, they will make an impact on the lives of people. He cautioned mostly children dwelling in orphanage homes to take solace in the Lord and make education paramount as they will gain prosperity and assist others.
Meanwhile, the distributions of another 60 bags of rice will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2007 among several other orphanage homes and folk homes in the country. The distribution of rice by the Andrews is the second in less than a week.
