Monrovia — A group calling itself the "Rainbow Coalition" at the University of Liberia has declared a "vote of no confidence" in Dr. Amos C. Sawyer's led search committee to replace outgoing President Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh, terming it as a conduit designed slyly by the government to stall the departure of Dr. Conteh and the reopening of the institution.

According to a Rainbow Coalition release issued Thursday, the group indicated that President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf should promptly appoint a new administration at the University including a President, Vice President for Administration and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The group also requests the Ministry of Education to immediately intervene to curb the prolongation of the strike action by the University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA) and the University Support Staff Association (ULSSA) as the late intervention into the crisis could be precarious for this situation to be salvaged.

The release, signed by the Standard Bearer of the Rainbow coalition, Teeko T. Yorlay, expressed complete disappointment and frustration over the UL administration's refusal to promptly look into the University of Liberia Faculty Association's concerns and the government's lackadaisical behavior toward these concerns.

The group believes that the government's carefree attitude, which loudly manifests itself through the setting up of Dr. Sawyer search committee for a new UL President while the outgoing President Dr. Conteh superintends the search process, and at the same time, is signing serious financial documents, are ramifications that are not linked to the interests of UL students.
