Following alleged gruesome murder of marketing manager, Akute Undertaking, Ojodu District of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) Plc., Mr. Adetola Ademolu, by some aggrieved customers, the company's management has set up Anti-Corruption and Anti-Customer Behaviour Units in its district offices where customers can lay any complaints of staff high-handedness, illegal activities like extortion, shoddy execution of assigned duties and general complaints.
This was contained in a statement by the management and made available to Sunday Vanguard, weekend, by Ojodu District's Public Relations Officer Mr. Clement Ezeolisah.
The PHCN management strongly condemned the killing of its staff and advised its customers to shun violence against public servants discharging their legitimate duties as it never pays.
The chief executive officer of the zone, Engr. O. A. Adeola while briefing the press, gave the chronology of the events that led to the alleged killing of the PHCN official.
According to him, "At about 12.30pm, Tuesday, 19th August 2008, a call came to the District Office that there was a mob-action in Akute and that a staff had been beaten to death.
"The district management mobilized to the Undertaking where the death of the Undertaking's Marketing Manager, Mr. B. A. Ademolu was confirmed."
Adeola added, "Staff eye-witnesses, Mr. Akinwale Justus and his team (Linesmen) had gone to Arifanla area, Akute, Ogun State, to monitor the previous day's disconnection of debtor-customers, who were previously disconnected but illegally reconnected himself. This took them to No.10, Old Ijoko Road.
"Mr. Akinwale approached a fish farm which was disconnected the previous day, Monday, 18th August for direct connection, non-payment of connection fee and stealing of electricity and found the fish farm illegally reconnected through a neighbour's network. The unregistered customer has become notorious for this illegal reconnections.
