Nigeria: Militants Abduct Rivers High Chief

A HIGH chief in Opobo, Rivers State and pharmacist, Alabo Noble Diri, was abducted in the early hours of yesterday in his country home. Spokesman of the Joint Task Force, JTF, and army PRO in the state, Lieutenant Col. Sagir Musa, confirmed the development to Sunday Vanguard on phone.

According to him, no group had claimed responsibility for the abduction. "Alabo Noble Diri, a pharmacist who lives in Braithwaite Memorial Hospital, member Port Harcourt Club and Opobo high chief was kidnapped yesterday at Kala Ibiama-Opobo at about 2 a.m. No group has claimed responsibility and no contact has been made. There has also been no demand for ransom.

The JTF commander, Brigadier General Sariki Yarki Bello, has directed all security agencies in the state to be on alert with a view to getting him freed and arresting the miscreants."

Sagir also confirmed the release of two French hostages yesterday. He said they were kidnapped sometime ago in the state.
