Kenya: Iracha Wins Safaricom Series Leg

Nairobi — Gikunda Iracha overcame a stiff competition to win the third round of the Safaricom Festival of golf series at Railway golf club over the weekend.

Handicap 15, Iracha started well with pars on hole 1, 4 and 6 to settle for 20 points at the front nine.

At the back nine, despite dropping two shots on hole 12 and 15, he managed two birdies on hole 13 and 16 and several pars collecting 22 points for a total of 42 stableford points to romp home as the winner and taking home a fully loaded Compaq laptop.

The nine hole course hosted the Safaricom sponsored national pre-qualifier event that attracted over 160 golfers drawn from Railways and Golf Park.

Following closely was handicap 20, P. Manjau who carded 20 points at the first nine and returned 21 points at the second nine for a total of 41 points to finish as the runner-up with a stroke behind the winner.

Kimani Munyiri combined 21 and 20 points for a total of 41 points to finish third beating Patrick Wanjala on count back.

Former Railway Chairman Titus Mbogua secured himself the fifth position with 41 points after beating handicap 18, Michael Mbugua with 40 points.

Robert Nyanchoga carded 20 points at both nines for a total of 40 points to emerge as the Safaricom staff winner while Handicap 8, Steve Otieno was the guest winner with 37 points.

Tom Mabele and Lucy Njuguna took home the longest drive men and women prizes respectively while nearest to pin prize went to Ngata Kimondo.
