The Electricity Development Corporation, EDC, has presented a new strategic vision for the development of the electricity sector in Cameroon.
The vision was presented August 29 at the Yaounde Mont Fébé Hotel during an inter-administrations concertation. The General Manager of EDC, Cèlestin Ndonga, said the vision would enable Cameroon to earn substantial sums from its exportation.
Ndonga said he hoped that through the effective implementation of the vision by 2015, a greater part of the country would be supplied with electricity. He said the development of the energy sector in Cameroon is too low that the country does not fall within global classifications and minimum standards recognised by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and the New Partnership for Africa Development, NEPAD.
The Secretary General in the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, Fritz Gerald Nasako, declared that "the State is giving the energy sector a development face." EDC is charged with the responsibility of restoring adequate electricity supply to current public and industrial sectors by rehabilitating or constructing new energy sites such as the Lom-Pangar dam, the Limbe/Logbaba gas power plant, the Memve'le dam, etc.
