Kampala — STANDING in the pouring rain and the freezing cold for three hours after the advertised time for doors to open sucks.
But fans at Sweet Kid's Sirina Mulala album launch concert at Hotel Equatoria's parking lot on Saturday night were not about to let the unrelenting rain get them down.
They remained in buoyant mood, and, intent on being entertained, they waited for Sweet Kid's appearance shortly before midnight. The singer, popular for local love ballads began with a snippet of Akadde, before gliding into Nze Wuwo, one of his earlier hits.
With its alluring rhythm and sing-along suitability, the song was a surefire crowd-pleaser.
Another song that provoked a sing-along was Sanyu Lyange, a reggae-tinged track released earlier this year. Sweet Kid also performed Tobesiga, Kankutwale and Brenda, the song that launched his career.
At this point, it looked as if the show had hit a crescendo, the kind that many artistes want to end on, but not for Sweet Kid.
He disappeared briefly, then reappeared, and performed Sirikyusa, Kiba Kibi, Omwami Wo and Corruption, among others.
Towards the end, he went into his latest chart topper, Sirina Mulala, singing his way to a haunting and heartbreaking conclusion.
