Uganda: Museveni Receives Officials From DRC

Kampala — President Yoweri Museveni has received and held a meeting with a Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) delegation, led by Foreign Affairs minister Mbusa Nyamwisi.

The meeting took place on Thursday evening at State House Entebbe.

Museveni and his guests that included President Joseph Kabila's advisor on diplomatic and political affairs, Marcellin Chishambo, delved into issues aimed at strengthening further the cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.

President Museveni noted that the Lusaka agreement played a major role in the improvement of the relationship and cooperation between Uganda and the DRC.

He called for the implementation of the issues the two countries agreed upon during the Ngurdoto summit in Tanzania focussing on the Rukwanzi Island core administration along the two countries' common border.

The President observed that the non-implementation of the issues concerning the island disturb the people of Uganda and those of the DRC who live along the border areas of the two countries.

Nyamwisi commended President Museveni for his ardent proposals to enhance cooperation between Uganda and the DRC. He promised to report to President Joseph Kabila Uganda's desire to foster strong cooperation to avoid a situation of hostilities.

Nyamwisi assured Museveni that the DRC is going to work hard and foster further the Uganda-DRC relationship "because there is no way we can live without cooperation".

The Minister of Defence, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, internal affairs minister Ruhakana Rugunda, state for defence minister Ruth Nankabirwa and the permanent secretaries of defence and internal affairs ministries attended the meeting.
