The raging controversy over who is the authentic chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), may have been laid to rest, as the nine members of the party in the state House of Assembly have affirmed that Barr. Hussaini Garba is the bona fide chairman.

A member of the House representing Gurara Constituency on the platform of ANPP, Hon. Afiniki Dauda, who disclosed this in a press statement in Minna at the weekend, also disclosed that the three members of the party in the National Assembly have equally affirmed Barr. Garba as the chairman.

Dauda, who is also the minority chief whip in the House, was apparently reacting to a story credited to one Shehu Nafuntua, in which he claimed that Garba had no right to condole the Niger State government over the death of three Nigerlites in a boat mishap last week, because he is not the party chairman.

She explained that "members of the legislature elected under the platform of ANPP, who are also members of the state executive committee remain the highest stake holders of the party in the state today and Hussaini Omar Garba Esq who is the state chairman has our mandate to send that condolence message for and on behalf of the party and that remains the position."

The legislator expressed disappointment that, even in death, "People like Nafuntua will be so callous to the extent of making mischievous and provocative statements under the pretence of the so called chieftain, just to satisfy a narrow and selfish interest of another frustrated individual that he represents."

Dauda noted that Nafuntua could not claim to be a chieftain of the ANPP because he joined the party only about eight months ago with the sole aim of contesting the chairmanship seat of Chanchaga local government, but was roundly defeated.
