Africa: South Africa 2010 - Cameroon , Cape Verde in Leadership Duel

Group A leaders Cameroon, will clash with runners-up, Cape Verde this weekend.

With barely a point difference separating group leader, Cameroon from their immediate challengers, Cape Verde in the joint campaigns for the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola and the World Cup in South Africa, it will be a duel for leadership when both teams clash in a day five encounter in Praia, Cape Verde this weekend.

Cameroon currently tops the group with ten points, closely followed by Cape Verde on nine points. A defeat for the Lions will automatically propel Cape Verde to the first position. Such a scenario will seriously jeopardise Cameroon's chances of qualifying for the third round qualifiers given that the first teams from the 12 groups directly qualify for this stage of the competition alongside the eight best runners-up.

The Indomitable Lions would be handicapped in this encounter with the absence of the prolific goal fetcher, Samuel Eto'o Fils who has scored four of the seven goals by Cameroon so far. Eto'o's absence, due to two yellow cards obtained in two successive matches, has been complemented with the return of Achilles Webo who is expected to sit up given the numerous scoring opportunities he squandered in the encounter with Tanzania. However, the attack line has been reinforced with the arrival of new blood, Frank Songo'o and Christian Bekamenga. Frank Songo's ball conservation technique and versatility upfront,

could be an asset for the Lions, given his ability to play in the right and left wings respectively. Though nonchalant, Bekamenga's good positioning on the attack line could weigh on the Cape Verde defence.

The Indomitable Lions left for Cape Verde last Thursday after a two-day training session in Lisbon, Portugal. The match will take place on Saturday, September 6.
