The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) will on Thursday September 25 in Abuja honour the wife of the president, Hajiya Turai Yar'adua with the 'Beacon of Hope Award'.
National President of the association, Fatima Abdulkareem said in a statement yesterday in Abuja that Turai was being honoured for her contributions to the success of the girl child project. "The first lady has shown more than passing interest in the welfare and well being of the girl-child and children generally and the Nigerian woman, especially in the area of eradication of AIDS, poverty, maternal mortality, poverty and unemployment. These are noble things she is involved in and we are giving her the award to encourage her and to do more," Abdulkareem said. She said that Turai, who has accepted award, thanked the association for noticing her contributions to the society. The ceremony will hold at the Congress Hall of Transcop Hilton, Abuja.
