Nigeria: Olanipekun Solicits Support for Bankole

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr Wole Olanipekun, has called on members of the House of Representatives and Nigerians to support the reform efforts of Speaker, Dimeji Bankole.

Olanipekun spoke on Saturday as the Chairman of the investiture ceremony of the speaker as the 10th Honorary Fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS).

He said that Bankole had brought a progressive agenda to governance in the legislative arm in such a way as to advance the development of Nigeria.

" Even though Bankole is my junior by age, he is our leader by position and performance in the short time he has spent in office," he said.

The SAN recalled his recent speech at the NBA Conference in Abuja where he addressed the issue of constitutional development and the crisis in the Niger Delta.

The legal luminary recalled how the 16,000 membership of NBA were so impressed that they gave him a standing ovation.

He commended Bankole for pioneering discoveries of financial impropriety in major sectors of the economy through the House oversight function.

Olanipekun described Bankole as a "young, dynamic and humble man" adding that he deserved any award given to him in view of the great responsibility he is shoudering.

Speaking in the same vein, the Minister of Transport, Mrs Deizani Allison-Madueke, said the speaker represents a new generation in a new Nigeria.

The minister, who was the keynote speaker at the event, added that since Bankole's assumption of office, he has endowed the House with renewed vigour and effective leadership.

Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State, represented by the Commissioner for Housing, Dr Kunle Salako, said the people of the state were elated over the achievements of the speaker.

Responding, Bankole promised not to derail from the legislative agenda that he said was yielding results hitherto, unheard of.(NAN)
