Namibia: Fishy Dealings at Fish Body

8 September 2008

THE Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust has suspended its General Manager, Kaire Kandjavera, after allegations that fish meant for local consumption was being exported illegally.

The chairperson of the NFCPT Board of Trustees, Tobie Aupindi, announced on Friday that Kandjavera was suspended following an extraordinary board meeting on Tuesday.

The board appointed Steven Ambabi to act as GM until a forensic audit was completed.

"The results of the forensic audit will determine the way forward in this case," Aupindi said.

Government set up the NFCPT in 1994 to promote fish consumption in Namibia.
