Africa: BB Housemates Show Their Raunchier Side

THE Big Brother Africa III House was last week under fire from bloggers and conservative viewers who expressed shock at nudity and sexuality.

The house has been in an "amorous" mood, with some viewers going further to suggest that the reality show would shock and even match Big Brother UK.

The show has had its political moments with other participants asking Zimbabwean representative Munyaradzi Chidzonga the cost of a loaf of bread back home, obviously to show the country's astronomical level of inflation. The show's camera staff, sensing tension, zoomed the cameras to the empty poolside for about 20 minutes to mute the conversation.

Housemates like our own Munya, Ricco, Takondwa and Thami have been shown showering in the nude while girls have bathed skimpily dressed.

But it came as a shock when Ghanaian housemate Mimi revealed her strategy for winning this year's Big Brother prize: sex.

She confided in Morris that her plan to win was to emulate BBAII's Tatiana and even do better. Tatiana came third in BBAII. She kissed and frolicked in between the sheets with Richard, who won BBAII.

Tanzania's Latoya and Morris look set to shock viewers.

A game called Truth or Dare, recently played in the house, resulted in Sheila French kissing all the boys -- six of them! And then Ricco lap danced on Sheila, while crazy Takondwa stripped in front of all housemates.

A blogger from South Africa, Andile Dube said: "I have watched in horror as the show becomes a sex flick if not downright porn and I am not impressed. Everyone in the house is using sex as a tool to get the US$100 000 prize. It's a shame to lose dignity this way."

Another blogger, Felix from Nigeria, said he was shocked by the stories of the daytime activity the housemates got themselves involved in.

"I ask myself a few more questions: What really is a reality show based on, I thought it was supposed to be acting out your real life in the house or being yourself without pretence? How else do you describe two boys and a girl butt-naked in the shower at the same time? Is that reality or a desperate attempt by the housemates to win," he wrote.

John Makanda from Braeside in Harare said BBA was losing the plot and blamed the show for promoting "anti-social behaviour".

However, Elizabeth Roberts wrote in a forum that BBAIII was entertaining and should be treated as a lifestyles programme.

"Big Brother shows human nature when cornered and when forced to act according to a given environment.... it's endurance and it's a good concept," she wrote on a blog.

Reacting to Standardplus' exclusive with Munyaradzi's parents last week a reader commented: "Sure, it is a strange thing this shower hour! Life cannot get crazier. We've to support our boy though. After all it's a game show but eish, do Munya's mom and dad watch all the way when Munya is with Lucille?"

This is clearly the raunchiest house since the launch of the African editions.
