Busia — Police in Busia are holding a Congolese national who was arrested for being in possession of counterfeit US dollars amounting to 2,100.
The culprit identified as, Songolo Mulinga from Bukavu region in the DR Congo was also in possession of Shs6.5 million counterfeit DRC currency. All the notes in each bundle had the same serial numbers.
Busia District Police Commander Nasur Oringa told Daily Monitor on Friday that Mr Songolo was arrested on Tuesday by Uganda Revenue Authority Security Officer, William Ndaula and the police while he was crossing into Uganda from Kenya.
According to the Immigration stamps on his temporary document, he entered Kenya on August 24, 2008.
Mr Songolo who claimed to be a businessman admitted that he was in possession of counterfeit dollars, but insisted that such dollars were in use in the DRC.
Mr Oringa said Mr Songolo would be taken to court on charges of being in possession of counterfeit currency.
