The curtain on the 13 weeks Akosombo Textiles Limited National Table Tennis Clubs League which started on June 14, was lowered last Saturday at the D.G Hathiramani Sports Hall, at Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, Accra.
In all, 26 clubs made up of 26 male teams and 15 female teams from all over Ghana participated in the 13 weeks table tennis league. Ghana Immigration Service emerged winners in the 26 male clubs league. They were followed by Ghana Police Service with Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) placing third.
In the 15 clubs women's league, Top Spinners of Agona Swedru came first, Ghana Immigration Service was second, while CEPS emerged third. Immigration Service and Top Spinners will therefore represent Ghana in the June 2009 African Clubs Championship to be held in Morocco.
For their prizes, the winning clubs received giant trophies and 12 yards of ATL fabrics for each member of the teams. The second and third clubs in each division received six yards of ATL fabrics, also for each member of the team.
Mr. Sam Hemans - Arday, Adverts and Promotions Officer of Akosombo Textiles Limited promised that his company will sponsor the 2009 League with more attractive packages.
The Chief Executive of National Sports Council, Hon Prince Oduro-Mensah, in a speech read on his behalf, praised ATL for their longstanding sponsorship for Table Tennis programmes.
He congratulated the players and advised them to be respectful, obedient and patriotic.
Sqd. Ldr. Ebo Bartels, Chairman of GTTA, was also full of praises for ATL, the players and the GTTA technical committee for a successful league season.
The Secretary General of Ghana Table Tennis Association, Mr. Kwame Amponfi Jnr, thanked ATL for their promise to sponsor the 2009 National Table Tennis League and urged other well meaning Ghanaians and companies to also assist in cash and kind to develop table tennis in Ghana.
