Kenema — A medical officer said the unsightly spectacle of a nauseating corpse, apparently abandoned along Blama Road in Kenema could pose serious health risk for residents in the crowded locality.
The middle-aged man was found dead on the road side and his carcass left to rot since Saturday and much to the detriment of people living in the area.
A local businesswoman Mariama Kallon said the man died on Saturday and that since then nobody has come to identify the body.
She said the mad died around a market place where food stuff and other condiments are sold but that since his death people have refused to buy food around the area invariably causing serious problem for businesses.
Kallon called on the appropriate authority to help remove the corpse from the area.
Police at the criminal investigation department in Kenema said they have been informed about the corpse but it was not their mandate to remove it from the area.
The police further said it was the responsibility of the health and sanitation ministry and the city council to take care of abandoned mortal and animal remains in the township.
Efforts to meet with the health and city council official proved futile.
Meanwhile, this is not the very first time that corpses have been abandoned on the streets of Kenema.
Some two months ago a man who died along Hangha Road and Koroma Street junction was left unattended to for several days.
