Sharks manager, Kadiri Ikhana says the team fled Port Harcourt to Benin for their pre-season camping because of heavy rainfall that is symbolic of the city at this time of the year.
There had been insinuations that the fear of militants caused Sharks and Dolphins to relocate to Benin and Owerri but Ikhana told Total Sportsng website that only rains caused their decision to train in Benin.
"The persistent downpour in the state was enough to make us take cover and proceed to Benin to ensure that our training program was not disrupted.
"Everyone is aware we started our preparation just three weeks ago, and with the support of the state government we were able to take the team to Benin because of the constant rains in Port Harcourt. But at the same time, I think we are more prepared than some teams even though we practically have a new team on ground," Ikhana said.
"I promise the people of Port Harcourt that I would give them a team that would play good football, and we are praying for the best and also hoping for the best and we are expecting that we would win one or two trophies this season so as to make supporters of Sharks smile."
Ikhana will have his first test as Sharks' gaffer this season in Gombe where they play against Gombe United.
