Freetown — Defence lawyers in the matter between inspector general of police versus Perez and 18 others would be heard today at the Freetown high court, presided over by Justice Konoyima.
Lawyer SAJ Jamiru who spoke on behalf of the defence counsel informed magistrate Deen Tarawallie that they have filed an application to the high court in respect of the proceedings before him suggesting that the matter be heard today.
Jamiru said numerous attempts have been made to have access to their clients but they were advised that access should be granted to them for an appropriate order. As a result, he asked that the matter be adjourned.
Director of public prosecution Oladipo Robin-Mason said the defence team cannot usurp their functions by applying for adjournment.
"Had it not been for the absence of the tenth accused Mohamed R. Sesay, the fifteenth accused Alusine Kamara and the doctor who would have to prove that the accused were fit, we would have continued with our proceedings," he said.
The state prosecutor further said they were aware of the proceedings and that they would proceed with the matter notwithstanding the high court case.
