Despite his reservation for the U-23 team (Dream Team), Super Eagles coach, Shuaibu Amodu has incorporated more than half of the U-23 players into the team that would face Leone Stars in next month's qualifiers.
He has catered for more than half of the 2008 Olympic Games players notably Osaze Odemwingie, Obinna Nsofor, Onyekachi Apam, Sani Kaita, Efe Ambrose, Chinedu Ogbuke and it is expected that Dele Adeleye, Femi Ajilore and Chibuzor Okonkwo will get their Super Eagles chance.
However, Coach Amodu has held back pressure from the public and top officials from Nigeria Football Association (NFA) to elevate the U-23 team by insisting on keeping the trust on the national team that has won all its five matches in the ongoing 2010 World Cup/Nations Cup campaign.
He bluntly declined suggestions that the U-23 team should be featured against Leone Stars next month in Abuja for the final Group 4 encounter of the Angola/ South Africa 2010 qualifiers.
Meanwhile, officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have said they would not interfere in the saga insisting that the choice is for Amodu to make.
"We will not interfere. It is left to Amodu to decide who he wants to use. It is true the team played well at the Olympics but that is not enough for them to just jump into the senior team," said an NFF official yesterday.
To many Nigerian fans, the match is more of a formality as the team has already booked a place in the next qualifying stage.
