Kampala — THE Police in Busia district are holding a Rwandan national over the possession of over one million counterfeit American dollars.

Busia district Police commander Nasur Oringa identified the suspect as Jerome Harilimana, a Kigali-based businessman.

Oringa said Harilimana, who claims not to speak any other language apart from Kinyarwanda, was among the passengers aboard a Kampala-bound Akamba bus.

He said Harilimana was arrested by border security operatives at the customs yard on Wednesday after finding $1,004,600 in fake US dollars in his bag.

The Police suspect that the counterfeit currency was in transit to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Oringa said the Police had sensitised bus owners about the need to thoroughly check their passengers' luggage.
