Africa: Meet the Face of Africa Representative

A look at Botswana's representative at the soon-to-start Face of Africa, Totwana "Tito" Tema says much about the young woman's character.

Tema certainly has the body and height that meet the M-Net's Face of Africa set standards.

The minimum height requirement for this year's Face of Africa is 1. 72 m, while the maximum hip requirement is 96 cm. The 24-year-old physiotherapist had her moment when she was selected as a finalist from a field of hopefuls who recently thronged the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC). But who is Totwana? Firstly, her name, Totwana, refers to one of the most beautifully handcrafted cultural items found in many households in Botswana, either serving as storage for grain like sorghum, vegetables and fruits. Totwana, commonly referred to as Tlatlana in the southern part of the country, can also be used for interior decoration.

Tema, who hails from Tutume, Central District, attended Baobab Primary School before doing her junior certificate at Moselewapula Junior Secondary School in Gaborone West. She later moved to Mater Spei Senior Secondary School in Francistown, but returned to Gaborone for her Form Six at Legae Academy.

After that, Tema went to South Africa, where she graduated in physiotherapy from the University of Cape Town (UCT) in January this year.

Tema, who prefers to be called Tito, describes herself as a people's person. She says she is a compassionate person and currently serves as the Zebras' senior national soccer team's physiotherapist. Tema is an ardent soccer fan and her English Premiership side is Liverpool. The young model is also an animal-lover who owns a cat and a Maltese puppy. She has only one sibling, a sister currently studying in Australia.

She told Showbiz that she loves reading, mainly non-fiction books. She also enjoys watching movies during her spare time and her genre of choice is comedy. Tema says she is not too much into partying but rather enjoys outdoor activities, including hiking and horse -riding. A big supporter of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) outreach programmes, Tema says she enjoys cooking and gardening as well.
