Somalia: Country 's President Condemns MPs Killing

Mogadishu — Using strong words, Somalia's President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed condemned the killing of legislator Mohamed Osman Maye in Baidoa, the seat of the Transitional Federal Government.

The assassination took place on Tuesday evening while Mr Maye was returning from special Ramadhan prayers known as Traawih at a mosque close to his residence in Baidoa, 240 kilometres, southwest of Mogadishu.

"The assassination of MP Maye has surely been orchestrated by the anti-peace groups," said Presdident Yusuf while at Villa Somalia, the state house in Mogadishu.

"I am hereby sending my condolences to the family of the legislator and to all peace-loving Somalis," added the president.

President Yusuf ordered the security apparatus and criminal investigators of the Transitional Federal Government to pursue the perpetrators of the crime and ensure that justice is done.

Sheikhb Aden Mohamed Nur alias Sheikh Aden Madobe joined the wave of condemnation of the MP Maye's killing. "The MP was killed in an unlawful manner by groups bent to engage in crimes," said Speaker Aden Madobe.

In a statement from the office of president Yusuf, the government said it will deploy sufficient forces to Baidoa to ensure the safety of the inhabitants, including MPs
