Zimbabwe: Highway Take On Triangle

Harare — It's the big one in the Zifa Eastern Region Division One soccer league when Highway take on Triangle away at Gibbo on Sunday in a match that could decide the destiny of the championship race.

The Mutare-based side are trailing log leaders Eagles by a point while Triangle are on third position, a distant 17 points behind the leaders.

But Triangle have always spoiled the party for the title-chasing teams and in 2006, Kiglon, then in Division One, saw their dreams of winning the title going up in smoke when they lost to Triangle on the final day of the championship race when needing a win to get promoted into the top-flight.

And Masvingo has proved to be a minefield for the title-chasing teams with coach Lloyd Mutasa's side suffering their first defeat of the season at Mucheke when they lost 2-3 to United Lions.

Last season, when he was still in charge of Kiglon, the former Dynamos skilful midfielder lost his first match at Mucheke when he went down to Gutu Leopards -- now known as FC Victoria.

And Mutasa will be wondering how he can tame the demons of Masvingo this time around.

Triangle did not play in the reverse tie in July at Sakubva after they failed to turn up for the match and Highway were awarded the match on a 3-0 scoreline.

And Sunday's match should have tension as the hosts seek to gain some measure of revenge over that boardroom decision and inflict pain on the flamboyant Mutare side who are seeking the sole ticket into the Premiership.

Log leaders Eagles also have a tricky tie at home at Rudhaka where they welcome Devchem tomorrow.

Eagles are principally a Harare side that has a home in Marondera and they have their roots in Chitungwiza while Devchem are based in the dormitory town and use Chibuku as their home ground and the weekend's match has all the ingredients of a thriller.

Arthur Tutani's Eagles will be hoping to bounce back to their winning ways after they were held to a goalless draw by Air Zimbabwe Jets last weekend at Danny Birsmarck.

In the Northern Region the game of the week is at Trojan where second-placed Mwana Africa receive fourth-placed Savanna Eagles in a match, which promises some fireworks.

Leaders Black Rhinos should face no problems in dismissing Quick 'n Easy at One Commando tomorrow while third-placed Dorking Farm could find the going tough against visiting Turnall at Dandamera in Concession.
