Abuja — Executive Secretary of National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other Related Matters (NAPTIP) Mrs. Carol Nduaguba has said without international cooperation, trafficking in human persons cannot be stopped.
She said this at a meeting with Netherlands and Norway delegation and International/local partners with the agency in Abuja .
In his remark, the head of the delegates Mr. Warner Ter Kade stated that trafficking in Human Being (THB) can only be fought if there is combined effort by all the concerned agencies just as he vowed that there would not be any safe heaven for traffickers.
He affirmed that the mission of the meeting was to come to some good agreements on information exchange on criminal groups, on assessing their illegally earned profits, training their police staff in order to see how best and effectively they can prevent THB and protect victims and to expand the good cooperation with NAPTIP, to other Nigerian institutions.
His words "the Dutch government stresses the importance of cooperation in the field of combating international organised crime. NAPTIP has proven to be a solid partner. It is our intention to maintain and intensify the cooperation with NAPTIP and I know that many other countries want to follow suit".
Mr. Kade reiterated that their stand on how to fight the criminal networks in Europe and Africa, and how to make each others comparative advantages is by exchanging information, training investigators and learning from best practices in the field of victim-protection. "I am sure we will make this a success", he assured.
The Head of the delegate who maintained that Trafficking in Persons is a modern-day form of slavery, a new type of global slave trade, also said that "today we are again called by conscience to end the debasement of our fellow men and women. As in the 119th century, committed abolitionists around the world came together in a global movement to confront this repulsive crime."
