Sierra Leone: Latter Day Saints Trains Nurses

Freetown — Latter Day Saints church Thursday ended a two-day child delivery training for nurses in Bo following a similar training at the church's headquarters on Dwarzark Farm in Freetown.

Medical doctor David Gourley said the training was designed to equip nurses on how to carryout safe delivery, adding that training of nurses was one of five projects they have undertaken so far.

"This is the second time we are training nurses in Sierra Leone. We hope to organize more training in the future," he said.

Gourley said the church has made donations of wheelchairs, eye cleaner and safe drinking water to several organizations across the country.

Senior health sister at the ministry of health and sanitation Fatmata Mansaray said the training was timely because the country has the highest infant mortality in the world.

"The training will help nurses get firsthand knowledge on how to deliver without any problem. The nurses have been provided with delivery kits," she said.
