Sierra Leone: SLPP Vows to Work With Mayor

Freetown — Secretary general of the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party said his party was ready to work with the administration of the mayor of Freetown city council Herbert George-Williams.

Jacob Jusu Saffa told journalists at a donation ceremony organized by the FCC that as a party they were ready to give all necessary support to the council and to help enhance their work.

"We as a party have agreed to support Mayor George-Williams. SLPP is a changed party and we will urge all our members to pay their taxes," he said.

In response the Mayor said the donation of generator, chairs and a computer to the opposition Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) showed that they were ready to maintain peace and stability in the country.

He said items donated were not only meant for the improvement of the office but also to further strengthen the cordial relationship between the FCC and the SLPP.

"The SLPP headquarter is our neighbour and we should have cordiality between us. I want to assure all that we will continue to live as one family," he said.

He said the items would bring unity between the APC and the SLPP.

Secretary general of the APC Victor Bockarie Foh said there was need fort the two parties to work as one and urged their members to pay their local tax.
