Kenya: Cane Farmers Demand Firm's Dissolution

12 September 2008

Nairobi — Over 500 cane farmers from Mumias took to the streets on Friday to demand the dissolution of the Mumias Outgrowers Company.

However, they said that the firm had to pay them their dues first.

Mzee William Mumbo, a farmer, said that in the last three decades, his 32-acre cane farm hadn't even assisted him pay his children's fees.

They petitioned area MPs to work with Agriculture minister William Ruto to address their plight.
