Uganda: 70 Percent Women Abused

Kampala — At least 72% of women in Mubende District were sexually abused last year. Another 28% were forced to have sex with men who were not their husbands.

Justus Rugambwa, the regional programme manager Action Aid Uganda, said the survey carried out in the district indicated that these women and girls were at a high risk of contracting HIV/AIDS.

Action Aid Uganda has launched the 'Women Won't Wait' project in Mubende, Pallisa and Nebbi, to support all abused women.

Over sh200m has been earmarked for Mubende District to care for 500 women.
