Nigeria: 'Peace in Anambra PDP Depends on Stakeholders'

Vincent Ujumadu

15 September 2008

Awka — wAS the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Vincent Ogbulafor inaugurates the Prof. Jerry Gana-led peace committee to try again at resolving the crisis in the party in Anambra State, a governorship aspirant of the party in the 2007 election, Chief Ikenna Azomchine has said that peace might still elude Anambra PDP if the stakeholders insist on hijacking the committee.

Addressing newsmen in Awka weekend, Azomchine who is the chairman of the party in Europe advised all the factions in the party to come together, adding that the national chairman is very much concerned to see that peace returned in the party in Anambra because of the state's strategic position.

He frowned at a situation whereby some chieftain of the party were busy struggling to hijack the structure without first bringing peace, adding that if the situation continued that way, the party might lose out again.

"These people have so much money that they don't have any respect for anybody. Anambra PDP is just about money and they have perfected moves to hijack everything if care is not taken. The Nwofor congress committee failed because of this greedy stance and now that Jerry Gana is coming, they must bury their differences.

"But I am afraid that once Jerry Gana comes, they will try to influence him which will be to the disadvantage of the party. There was Nwobodo committee which tried to bring peace, but did not succeed. They brought Nwofor and now Jerry Gana. We need to give them a chance, but I have my fears about what may happen if the NWC and Ogbulafor do not take effective control."
