Nigeria: PHCN Unveils Plans to Achieve Stable Power Supply

The Executive Management Team (EMT) of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has formally launched a new vision and target/mandate for the next three years.

The new vision of the company is the achievement of "sustainable and stable power supply; accurate and timely billing, strong business ethics, efficient service and customers satisfaction." The targets / mandate is the generation of 6,000mw by December 2009 and 10,000mw by December 2011.

Unveiling the transitional Board's new vision and mandate at a maiden meeting with the General Management Team (GMT) of the company, at its Corporate Headquarters, in Abuja, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bello Suleiman, charged them to manage, drive and execute the vision and mandate using the minimal available resources to achieve optimal value for better service delivery and customer satisfaction.

Engr. Suleiman said that the new vision and target would be further expanded into key performance indicators (KPI) and incorporated into detailed performance contracts. The Key Performance Indicators (KPI), according to him would be measured against the targets to be achieved by all the Chief Executive Officers of the Business Units and the Sect oral Heads at the Company's Corporate Headquarters.

He enjoined the new management team and the entire workforce to buy-into the new vision and mandate as it will require attitudinal change, re-engineering, training and retraining and advised that they should "think out of the box" instead of sticking to "business as usual" syndrome.

Engr Suleiman reiterated management's resolve to achieving a maintenance culture which would deliver sustainable and stable power supply through a well motivated workforce with sound commercial focus, business ethics and high revenue collection efficiencies.

On the implications of the transition, the EVC/CEO said, "moving from where we are to our destination will be a challenging process which entails tough decisions, difficult steps, high hurdles and perseverance". The transition process, he opined would require a strategic cascading down the organisational strata demanding people with the right skills, training and attitude. He assured that no committed staff would loose his / her job in the new dispensation.

A statement from the General Manager, Public Affairs of PHCN, Mrs Efuru Igbo said the EVC/CEO maiden meeting with the general management team was attended by all the 19 Chief Executive Officers of the PHCN successor companies and General Managers in the Corporate Headquarters.
