Libyan ambassador to Sierra Leone Dr. Mohamed Alharari Abdulsalam Friday donated eight more tractors to the government of Sierra Leone in a bid to boost the country's food security drive. The presentation took place at State House.
The tractors, which flown into the country in a special flight were ferried from Lungi international airports to Freetown.
The donation is in line with the Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi's green program, an initiative designed by Gaddafi to achieve food sufficiency in Africa.
Dr. Abdulsalam expressed hope for the country to attain food sufficiency.
The Libya envoy said his President was currently implementing the project in 53 countries in the continent.
"The program will improve the production of rice, maize corn and other crops in Africa," he said.
He said the tractors would be fuelled, maintenance and the Libyan government would also provide drivers for the tractors.
He added that the government would only provide land and security for the Libyan team.
Minister of presidential and public affairs Alpha Kanu lauded the Libyan leader for the gesture as the tractors would empower the country agriculturally.
He said Sierra Leone would take full advantage of the green program.

this is a great gesture shown on the part of the Libyan government. Africans helping Africans, this is what we need to do. Mr Gaddafi and the Libyan country are a great example of an African country that when left alone, they can achieve great things to help their own citizens and fellow Africans abroad.
