Kenya: Raila Asks Kenyans to Create Jobs

Nairobi — Prime Minister Raila Odinga has asked Kenyans to focus on entrepreneurship as a means of creating jobs.

The PM warned Kenyans against relying on public service jobs, saying the sector was "already saturated".

"The public sector is too small and we are already talking about retrenchment as it was bloated.

"We must start teaching our people, especially the youth, the art of entrepreneurship. We must start and create jobs for other people," Mr Odinga said on Sunday night.

Top position

The PM also asked Kenyans to stop jostling for Government posts on behalf of members of their communities.

Mr Odinga said it was improper for people to think that they would benefit from "one of them" being in a certain top position. "When someone is appointed as a permanent secretary or managing director, whatever salary they earn goes to them and their family," said the PM.

He assured the public that the Government was ready to support those who were out to create jobs and make the life of Kenyans better through economic growth. He was speaking in his Lang'ata constituency when he opened the Karen Park Restaurant.
