A teacher at C Spellmeyer Senior Primary School at Gibeon died on Thursday when the wall of a dilapidated house collapsed on him.
A department head at the school, Daniel Haosemab, yesterday confirmed the incident.
He said 56-year-old Granville Raymond Balie and other teachers were visiting the house to check on the progress of its demolition.
"It was very fast, we only heard one of the learners who were tasked to demolish the house scream 'Watch out, the wall is crashing'," Haosemab related.
Haosemab said Balie died an hour later in the local clinic.
Haosemab said the other teachers who had accompanied Balie on the site inspection escaped unharmed.
The house belonged to the AME private school, which was merged with the Spellmeyer school earlier this year.
Haosemab rejected rumours that a classroom wall had collapsed while Balie was teaching a class.
"All classrooms of the old AME private school were renovated before the C Spellmeyer School relocated," he said.
