Minister of Safety and Security, Nickey Iyambo, is horrified by the bad conditions at Police stations and officers' homes.
Iyambo, who has been visiting Police stations in all the regions, told The Namibian that officers do not have proper accommodation and many of them live in tents or corrugated iron shacks.
He also said some Police stations had been surrounded by sewage for months.
Further, many Police stations did not have transport or radios.
He singled out the Oshikango Police station as the worst.
Raw sewage has collected outside the station for the past three years and the Helao Nafidi Town Council has done nothing about it although the Police had complained to them.
"I am inviting you to go and see for yourself," Iyambo told The Namibian.
"How can you expect good work from a Police officer who is working in such a bad environment?" He said the sewage around the Police station flows into a dam at a nearby village, where children swim.
"When cholera breaks out, we say it comes from Angola.
No ways, the cholera is coming from this sewage and not from Angola," Iyambo said.
He said the Police garages, built to service Police cars, are also very badly constructed.
"The consultants have just not done their work properly and this really doubled my disappointment," the Minister said.
