Angola: Attorney General Explains AJPD Inconformity

Luanda — The Attorney General's Office (PGR) filed with the Supreme Court a legal action to get the Justice, Peace and Democracy Association (AJPD) extinguished, as certain articles of its statutes run against the law on association and entitle it to activities that are of particular power of the State, according to a note released Tuesday in Luanda.

This follows information in various media organs, stating that the PGR wishes to cancel the activities of AJPD out of pure persecution.

"Wishing to restore legality, the Attorney General's Office often notified AJPD to rectify its statutes and adjust them to with the law, which the association has failed to do," stresses the note.

It adds that under the article 13º, nº 3 of the Law 14/91 of 11 May to 15 July 2003, the State Attorney General filed a legal action with the Supreme Court to get AJPD extinguished and a jurisdictional decision is still being awaited.
