Kenya: Tortoise Earns Men Sh80,000 Fine Each

Nairobi — Two men were on Tuesday fined Sh80,000 each for illegal possession of a tortoise.

Kevin Mugambi and Denis Kamau were told by Kibera senior resident magistrate Cosmas Maundu that they faced 24 months in jail if they did not raise the fine.

The two, who were unrepresented, pleaded guilty. Prosecutor Capis Otieno told the court that they were found with the tortoise at Nairobi's Village Market.
