Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) is happy with the progress of the junior league for government Primary Schools. The second season of the league starts today with seven new schools added to the founding five.

BCA development officer, Girish Ramakrishna said that the increase in the number of schools is a clear indication that they might be achieving their objective.

He said that cricket is becoming popular and the increasing number of schools participating bears testimony to this. Ramakrishna explained that after popularising the game, they are trying to put children in a competitive environment. He said that this year, they will have boys and girls playing together.

He added that there is still room for improvement and their target is to have about 20 schools next year.

The league will be played in a knockout format in the initial stage. Six teams will then proceed to the round robin stage.

He added that they will be giving prizes for the man/woman of the match in the initial rounds until the semis.
