Mochudi Centre Chiefs' players have been encouraged to continue working hard to defend the three titles they won last season.
Motiganz Botswana general manager, Mordehay Dayan said yesterday that what Chiefs achieved last season makes them proud to associate with the club. "We are proud of your achievements and we encourage you to continue working hard in the coming season to defend the cups. Motiganz is a brand and Chiefs are a brand and continue protecting the images of the two.
We will continue to support you in whatever way we can," said Dayan.
The Motiganz Botswana chief was speaking at a ceremony where the company honoured Chiefs' players for their achievements last season.
He said what Chiefs achieved in the past season has forced them to give the players bonuses. Motiganz Botswana spent P50,000 to reward the players.
Chiefs' chairman Ernest Molome said that they highly appreciated the support they have been getting from the diamond company. "You have supported us during the difficult times because as you know, it is difficult to get sponsorship from companies in this country.
Football in Botswana has improved a lot and we need a lot of support. The sponsorship has helped us to work hard," he said. Molome assured the sponsor that they will continue working hard in the coming season because his side has a three-year plan which is coming to an end next season.
He asserted that this does not mean that they will relax after completing the plan. "Your (players) commitment in the past season surpassed our expectations and we highly commend you for that. The press also deserve credit because they contributed to our success because they marketed our games thus ensuring that we make a lot of money through gate-takings," said Molome.
On behalf of the players, captain Pontsho Moloi said since Motiganz came on board, there has been a huge difference in the team. He thanked the management for doing their best to keep the team intact and promised that they will work hard next season. "Special thanks also go to the supporters who have been fantastic," he said.
Moloi was chosen as the club's player of the season and pocketed P2,500. The most improved player award went to midfield general Elijah Montsho (formerly Phiriepa) while the most disciplined award went to Given Mpundu.
Both players got P500. The goalkeeper of the season award was given to Noah Maposa. He walked away with P750. The rest of the players were given cash rewards.
