17 September 2008

Monrovia — As part of its efforts to strengthen and build the capacity of Labour Inspectors and Commissioners to properly discharge their responsibilities throughout the country, the Ministry of Labour has provided five additional motorcycles to regional offices outside Monrovia.

According to a Labour Ministry release, the five regional offices are located in Lofa, Gbapolu, Maryland, Bomi and Grand Cape Counties.

This latest supply brings to ten in less than a year.

Late last year, the Ministry, with assistance from the Dutch Government, provided five motorcycles to Grand Bassa, Margibi, Bong, Nimba and Grand Gedeh counties.

Speaking during the official turning over of the motorcycles to the Labour Commissioners, acting Labour Minister John F. Josiah Esq. cautioned the Labour Commissioners to use the bikes to enhance the operation of the Ministry of Labour in their respective county of assignment.

The acting Labour Minister also called on the Labour Commissioners to use the gesture to strengthen tripartite relation among workers, employers, and government through the promotion of social dialogue.

The acting Minister also cautioned the commissioners to desist from misusing the bikes because any damage done to the bikes as a result of mishandling, those responsible will pay the price of the damage. He then presented 18 gallons of gasoline and three quarts of engine oil to each county commissioner.

Receiving the bikes on behalf of the Labour Commissioners, the Director of Regional Labour Affairs, Augustine Gbosah expressed thanks to the Minister of Labour Atty. Samuel Kofi Woods, II, and the entire administration for the gesture, and promised that the bikes will be used to enhance the functions of the regional offices.
