Nairobi — Police commissioner Hussein Ali on Wednesday defended the force against accusations that it bungled investigation on terror suspects.
Speaking at a reception for Olympic 800m champion Pamela Jelimo, Maj-Gen Ali dismissed claims of non-performance by his officers. He said officers "had done their work satisfactorily".
The police boss said persistent questions regarding the performance of the force in investigations were "pedestrian" and could not be addressed by him.
Second-guess
"We cannot second-guess the performance of the Judiciary," he added.
He was speaking a day after a judge acquitted a man who had been linked to the 2002 Kikambala Paradise Hotel bombing.
In his judgment, Mr Justice Jackton Ojwang' said: "The conduct of the police authorities in connection with the arrest and detention of the appellant (Mr Omar) was in violation of his rights as safeguarded in the Constitution."
Mr Justice Ojwang' said a two-year delay in charging Mr Omar Said Omar could not be explained. Mr Omar had earlier been jailed for eight years for the possession of weapons.
He was found in possession of a firearm, explosives and ammunition without a certificate.
