Nigeria: Neco Pledges to Fight Examination Malpractice

Ilorin — The National Examination Council will continue to support the Kwara State government in its fight against examination malpractice as well as total transformation of the educational sector.

NECO Zonal officer for Kwara and Kogi States, Alhaji Kola Abdullraheem who stated this during an interview with the Daily Trust also noted that NECO as an examination body was the first to set up agenda for fighting examination malpractice through out the country.

According to him, the examination body has since its existence in the state served as a partner in progress in the fight against the act.

"We thank God that Kwara State has been, and is still the least in examination malpractice, the educational reform in the state has been very successful in that students now prefer to read their books rather than go to the examination hall ad cheat", he said.

He said many times NECO official were attacked by persons who may want to cheat at examinations in some parts of the country.

He thanked God for the peaceful atmosphere in Kwara State. On Akewusola Secondary School where examination malpractice was recorded in the recently concluded NECO examination, the NECO boss said the proprietor did not go through the right channel to register the students.

He said the 800 students were registered by the school without the knowledge of the examination body.

He said the minimum number of students private schools are allowed to register is 150, and the maximum is 250.

He appealed to private school proprietors to always ensure they go through the proper way to register students so that the future of those students would not be toyed with.

In his remarks, the president f the Association of Independent Private Proprietors of Schools (AIPPS) Kwara State, Mr Babatunde Oladehinde said the problem of examination malpractice among schools could be termed as a Nigerian factor.
