They won both the championship and Cup this year.
Both MINUH and FAP clubs have once more demonstrated their supremacy in handball in Cameroon by winning both the championship and Cup of Cameroon this year in the male and female categories respectively. In the 45th edition of the Cup of Cameroon finals played last Saturday and Sunday at the Concorde sports complex of the University of Yaounde I, the team from the Ministry of Urban Affairs, MINUH defeated their challengers from the Samuel Eto'o Foundation in Douala, Fundesport, 22-19. Fundesport who played the finals last year under the name of Soreno, were in the lead by the end of the first half 11-9 on Saturday before the game was interrupted by a heavy down pour and deferred to Sunday. As the game continued from the 26th minute when it was halted, the seven time cup winner, MINUH took an upper hand and finally carried the day.
In the feminine category played the previous day, FAP who had already won the championship, beat their arch rivals, TKC 28-23. FAP took command of the game from the start maintaining a 6 to 10 points lead along the match and only relaxed during the last quarter of the encounter, enabling TKC to close the victory margin to three at one point in the match before widening the gap again to five points by the end of the match. TKC can be said to have paid the price of aging players as the FAP girls were more youthful and energetic than the TKC girls.
Meanwhile in the veteran category, VEHACE of Edea narrowly edged Stade Handball Club of Yaounde 18-17 and All Stars of Douala beat the Veterans of Bepanda, Douala 23-22. In the junior category, College Alfred Saker equally narrowly edged the Bilingual Grammer School from Molyko-Buea, 24-23. The Bilingual Grammer School again bowed to Colaco of Bafoussam 26-27. The ill-luck continued for the bilingual Grammer School in the cadet category as they fell to Lycée Bilingue of Bertoua 30-33. In the other cadet finals, the second South West representative, Government Bilingual Practising School Muea was beaten by BGHS Molyko, 20-13.
According to the coach of FAP Yaounde, Eyounjou Lucien, the season has been a difficult one but they were satisfied winning the cup and championship. The challenge now he said, is obtaining a good performance in continental competitions. A goal which he said can only be attained through team work and hard work.
